Mephedrone: The Facts

I don’t know how much people outside “the industry” have heard about mephedrone, but by all accounts, it’s exploded in popularity over the past few months. In the last three months, there’s been at least 50 news stories reposted to Drugs-Forum on the topic, and probably quite a few more that haven’t been picked up. We’ve got reports of teens dying, 11 year olds taking the stuff and a guy ripping his balls off — all the classic examples of the media whipping up an unnecessary (and untrue) shit storm. I’ve also read lots of anecdotes about the drug’s prevalence among students, friendship groups and even dealers of illegal drugs (points for diversification!). Since my articles on JWH-018 have been reasonably popular and stimulated some interesting discussion, I felt it was about time we gave mephedrone the same treatment.

The Basics

Mephedrone is not only cheap and legal, but it’s also incredibly effective. It’s a short-acting stimulant that feels something like a mixture of cocaine and ecstasy. If that wasn’t enough to explain its popularity, then the icing on the cake is the almost complete lack of a comedown the next day when used in moderation. Purities of over 99% make another great selling point when compared with similar illegal drugs.

Mephedrone is a white, crystalline powder with little to no smell. The term “Mephedrone” comes from methyl–ephedrone, describing the chemical structure.  Other names for it include:Mephedrone Powder

  • 4-MethylMethCathinone (methcathinone is another name for ephedrone)
  • 4-MMC
  • 4-MMCAT
  • MCAT (This is incorrect, but people use it anyway)
  • Meow
  • Bubbles (seems to be a brand name for capsules containing it and methylone, another research chemical)

Effects include an initial euphoria, which tapers off to a milder stimulation. Mephedrone does seem to oil social situations rather well and get everyone talking, laughing and having a good time, especially during the initial euphoria. Several users have compared it to cocaine, but some how less jittery and “arrogant”, while others will compare it to a more rushy ecstasy (which has to be a good thing, given the current state of the MDMA market). Actually, the effects seem to depend very much on dose and your chosen route of administration.

The most common ways to get this stuff into your blood are snorting it and eating it. As you can probably imagine, eating it will give a longer, less intense experience, while doing lines of it will give a much shorter, more intense buzz and make you want to keep taking it, but we’ll get to that later. Oh, I should probably mention that snorting it feels not too dissimilar from being raped in the sinuses by a Portuguese Man o’ War, particularly for your first line.

Other reported methods of administration include shoving it up your arse, requiring less than an oral dose and peaking somewhere between an oral or insufflated dose, and intravenously injecting it, which apparently isn’t that great, having a similar effect profile to being snorted with a million times the risk.

Dosage

A single oral dose would typically be between 150 mg and 300 mg, while lines can range from 50 mg to a monster 150 mg rail.

Pharmacology

MephedroneIf only we knew! Unfortunately, no one knows anything for certain, so we’re forced to do a bit of guesswork. If it feels like a cross between MDMA and cocaine, then we can assume that there’s some serotonin and dopamine involvement. The apparent addictiveness of mephedrone (more on that later, srsly), along with talkativeness also points to dopamine pathways, while the similarity of some side effects compared with serotonin depletion (taking too much MDMA or abruptly discontinuing selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors [SSRIs]) points to the serotonin pathways.

I would love some more information on this, so if you ever come across anything in the future, please report back!

Misconceptions

There are a number of misconceptions surrounding mephedrone, which we should clear up:

Legal does not mean safe

While it seems that users can take vast quantities of the stuff and still function,  we don’t know what the long term effects of mephedrone use will entail. A handful of people have died from taking it too. While the number is tiny compared with alcohol, it’s still always a good thing to remember.

Purity isn’t necessarily accurate

Mephedrone bought online will certainly be purer than illegal drugs bought on the street, but claims of 99.9% purity may not be true. Since it’s not sold for human consumption (like everything legal and fun), I’m not sure an accurate purity measure is required. Also, that 0.01% could be some deadly poison. It probably won’t be, but it might!

“Plant Food” might not be mephedrone

Lots of those news stories I’ve mentioned above have listed a million different “street names” for this drug, including “Plant Food”. No one is actually calling it plant food, it’s just how it, and lots of other compounds like it, are sold. If you’ve obtained anything psychoactive packaged as plant food, make sure you know what the hell it is you’re taking!

Side Effects

Side effects can be many and varied, some serious and some not. Mephedrone shares a number of the typical side effects you’d expect to find with any stimulant, such as:

  • Increased heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Raised blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Not wanting to sleep (insomnia)
  • Not wanting to eat (anorexia)
  • Chewing/grinding teeth (bruxism)
  • Moving your eyes loads (nystagmus)

More mephedrone-specific, and so perhaps more serious side effects include

  • Turning blue at the extremities & feeling cold (vasoconstriction)
  • Pains in the chest, throat and nose
  • Nosebleeds when snorted, especially with prolonged or frequent use

The more you use, the more the side effects become apparent and the initial pleasant effects diminish. Also, significant evidence is coming forward suggesting circulation issues are not just vasoconstriction, but something more serious — autoimmune vasculitis, where the immune system attacks your own body. This would seem to account for some of the odd and infrequent side effects, such as bruising or turning blue at the joints. Current reports suggest that this isn’t an issue of a dodgy supply for some people compared with the rest, but rather a small percentage of the population are at risk, probably because of some genetic differences. If you’ve noticed this, stop taking mephedrone! This condition will only get worse the more you consume. Add to that the usual stimulant-induced vasoconstriction, and you could find yourself with some serious problems.

Warning

Mephedrone can be addictive!

  • It’s easy to have several large sessions per week because of the cheapness and lack of comedown. Several people have reported taking over 20g per month.
  • It’s easy to keep taking it, especially when snorted, so a single line can turn into 5g session easily if you lack self control. There have been a few reports of people taking 5-7g over a 48 hour long single session.
  • Tolerance can also develop, so more is required for the same effect.

Safe Usage Tips

Mephedrone is not 100% safe, but then again, nothing is. To make sure you’re as safe as possible, here are a few tips:

  • Don’t buy it in bulk — 80% of people won’t be able to resist the charms of a massive bag of the stuff. Sure, you may save a few quid on the gram, but if your consumption sky-rockets, you’re not saving anything.
  • If you do buy in bulk, limit yourself — it’s all too easy to “just have one more line”, so perhaps let your friend look after your supply for you, or if you’re going out, take a predetermined quantity out with you and stick to it.
  • Don’t snort it if you think there’s any chance you will become addicted to it — this route of administration makes you want to keep on taking it much more than an oral dose, despite the snotty nose and watering eyes.
  • Eat healthily before and after — your body needs a good supply of nutrients, vitamins, etc to stay healthy and replenish your neurotransmitters. Forcing yourself to eat, especially during long binges, is essential. At least munch some vitamin tablets or something.
  • Take some magnesium supplements — this helps relax your muscles and stop all the jaw clenching and chewing that goes with most stimulants.
  • If you’re going to snort it, blow your nose soon after to clear out any powder — drugs aren’t  absorbed from your nostrils, so you want to get rid of it. I’d also suggest giving your nose a wash with either a spray bottle and some water, or by cramming some wet tissue up there with your head tilted back.

Hi all, firstly I’d like to say that my heart goes out to all parents “anxcious and/or angry” (rightly so I think) and any one els affected by mepherdrone. I don’t have children (yet) so, I can only try to emagine how difficult a time it must be.

I don’t consider myself a drug abuser, although I like to indulge if I get the oppertunity now and again..like today for example as I was doing some reserch before I had or too much.just doing it the senceible way.after reading through everyones comment it put my mind better at ease.Just did my last portion of mephedrone( I split 2g’s into about 5 – 6 doses) Just for me.

I hope no one minds but I’d just like to share my own experience’s with drugs, so this is more of a “try to make feel better story” than usefull info .
Um, and it’s my first time on a site like this so please go easy on me but i find myself compelled to leave a small say..and my opologies for poor spelling and punchuation bla bla ect…

As a 1415 yo boy (i’m the better side of 30 now btw!) I was always wanting to try different drugs as every one used to brag about how amazing they were (ill advised kids, advising kids I think). And I usually mannaged to find some for the week end.Usually just some solids(puff) and some times some pills or trips or LSD of some sort. I didn’t really know why I felt the need to try stuff. Thinking back, I guess I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. oh yeah and the rebellious teen part with my dad always saying to me, “don’t do drugs son” probabbly helped me along. I’ve smoked weed since school in varying amounts and still smoke it now.I’ve got a responcible job as a general manager so I think I have done reasonably well,I’ve always worked hard but drugs have defo made it harder for me. Bad short term memory is one thing and I get more un-organised the more weed I smoke.I like beer and the very occasional line of charly..I don’t often buy charly as i’m not a much of a fan. I don’t like the racy heart feeling! I guess because of that, and the fact it’s nearly always pants stuff and far too expencive I’ve never got close to having a coke habbit.

A friend of mine told me about and then introduced me to mephedrone about three weeks before christmass. He only gave me half a gram and said the “dude” had messed up the order!?!
I’didn’t beleive him of course. He is a friend whom i’ve known for about 12 years. He always has good intentions but alway looks after his own needs and has a tendency for dishonesty when it comes to drugs. I try not to hold it against him as i’m sure most recreational drugs can make people be dis-honest and shady from time to time.. btw he had a coke habbit for quite a few years, Untill mephedrone anyway. I ve tried mephedrone twice now. Once in ealy december as I mentioned and again tonight..I can see why people are getting addicted! because the initial come up is absolutly awsome. by the way i would never inject anything (IV?). I took my 2g’s orally. I realised that mephedrone must quite adictive after my first half g. in december because for about a week after I was craving more..Thats why I held off untill now.

Now my 2g’s are all gone I can speak with a tiny amount of authority and Knowing what I was like at the age of 14-17ish, I would say Mum’s and Dads are obvouslly correct to be worried. A buzz like that is too much for kids. Probabbly for the best that it goes illegal. I won’t buy it again if I know it’s not the original stuff..Sorry guys but if your taking it more than more than once a week then I’m not sure if you can say your not addicted !??! smithy must have been on something to say that to anxcious mum..or very brave!

    good luck to all

Anxious Parent: I was wondering if you’ve tried alternate forms of indulgence toward your child’s urges toward “thrill-seeking”? Maybe an alternate form of adrenaline rush that doesn’t involve taking a drug? There are a lot of natural, healthy ways to get a rush off of something that don’t involve drug usage at all. This may not be of use to you know, with the way your son seems to be acting, but it could serve to regulate his “cravings.” The natural ways I’m referring to are along the lines of athletic, goal-oriented tasks. Rock climbing, sports (team or water, even), or something along those lines, depending on what you have available to you.

    Hope this helps.

Reading through all these letters there seems to be mainly one thing in common,it is a wonderful high.
We have been experimenting since last Nov and have worked out that the ultimate high comes from a large bomb taken about 45 mins before you go out,get settled with a pint and let it kick in.WOW.
Psd Don’t snort, its a quick high, but your stash has gone within hours!!! i am nearly 50 and never had nowt like it!!
after about an hour stage 2 kicks in,the amazing high wears off then the talkative mode kicks in. through the night the odd dab on your finger restimulates everything and you can drink and talk for ever.
Once home get as much water in you as you can cos it really dehydrates you.

In Romania we buy this so called “Special Gold” thing, mephedrone based stuff. Everybody has just went crazy, in the last months, in a good way! So much fun, clubs getting opened in the morning for the afterparty ppl. Friends gladly losing weight :) ))! Alot of love and talking! I’ve heard about dying cases, but i don’t care, it’s just rumors afterall. Close persons haven’t had problems so far. For now things are very funny, and hopefully they wont get reversed. so.. fuck alcohol! (I’m 24)

  7. MistressJill says:

Had a pleasant introduction to it a couple of weeks back. Shame about the bloody nose! Partner and I had to quickly find a private room for a little orgasmic activity. Party went on a long time. Like all these wonderful legal (and not so legal) highs I have some concerns about revving up the neuro transmitters but this one does seem to come with no come down.

  8. harolld says:

toxic in order least first (my opinioun)
mephedrone, Flephedrone, Methedrone. these are all slightly toxic thay all have something atached the the 4th position on the ring and Methedrone has a paramethoxy group which is just reckless!
Please stick to Methylone and Butylone but be aware the doses are different also these are not feendish much more like MDMA just a weekend thing.
    be responsabule and use scales

  9. Bish Bosh says:

It would be great if you can gine us the facts on MDPV as well. Great reporting. Thanks.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM IT !!!!

  13. Amy Williams says:

We have been taking the drug for a few months but only on weekends. At fisrt we thought it was great and cheap. As of last night neither of us will ever take this drug again. My partner had what the doctors called an epiosode. He woke up in a type of fit. And judt didnt llok at home. I tried to wake him and it took a few minutes. He also fell off the bed onto the bedside table and cuts all over him. I kept shaking him and finally he new who i was and where he was. A trip to hospital. STAY WELL AWAY. ITS NOT WORTH IT.

  14. Laurence says:

Ok..a few comments now from a weekend user…Im very experienced with recreational drugs and reasonably sorted.….Ive decided to take a few weeks off from mephedrone due to the definite negative effects of saturday night use.….have started to experience memory loss which is mostly short term but nevertheless disconcerting.….an inability to concentrate on work tasks and a craving for repeated use which demonstrates a physical and psychological propensity for addiction…Im no alarmist and ive been there and done that through the years.….but Im posting a real and definite health warning now. Against everything I hold sacred, I reckon this powder should be made Class A classified..its too enticing and the side effects really do take a while to manifest!

Shit…I sound like the people I hate most!! but truly…trust me!!

Stay safe and try to use in moderation.

  15. Em says:

How refreshing to see an honest sensible and factual review of mephedrone. I was looking for some real advice and found it. I’ll certainly be passing on the web address. All too often information that is put out there is media with an agenda, with no concern for providing people with facts.

    Thank you.

  16. neil says:

As much as you can never believe an interview report all I would say is its like all the substances you can try. people say alcohol is safe cos its legal. its not. alcohol can kill. swim tried mephedrone and consumed 0.75 grams tonight and can safely say it is a lot like coke, with a bit of euphoria. swim went to a nightclub and said it was a really good night. the only downside swim had is the fact that after the first line u get a dirty taste in your throat. no comedown for swim;s plants tho. all in moderation.

keep safe people. dont be one of these dickheads who take 8g in a night and get it banned. its like booze. u can drink 6 pints and have a good night or drink 16 and spend the night in the police cells. whilst swim would not advocate abuisng your body, this plant food is legal and so use it on your “plants” appropriately. my plants found 100mg (approx — no scales) in a ciggarete paper deep in the compost was good. and the the other 650g they breatehd in cos there special plants. anyone from scotland want to get in tocuh reply to this. it really is asomehing special and i wouldnt’t want it ruined by dickheads. why spend 4x on the illegals when they fund arsholes. the police shoild thank us for this. aslong as people play it safe.

  17. neil says:

meant to say. keep it safe people. reserach your plant food before you take it and dont use it on your pl;ants on there own if its there first time. people die from alcohol all the time but we dont want any more deaths. knowledge is power and that. live and let live. i wouldnt want anybodys plants geting hurt by this. if anyone from scotland or if ur furhter afield get in touch. i can pm you my msn. id like to share experiencecs on plants. my petunias are fantastic.…

  18. sean says:

5* piece of information! i have been taking mephedrone for a few months now, and i love reading up on it especially when im buzzing for some reason :) and this is by far the most informative, non biased information i have read. most blogs etc either say how bad it is and how it kills people, or how great it is and you should spend all your money on it! i have put the link to this page as my facebook status in the hopes that ignorant or poorly informed people will be enlightened :) . my own thoughts are — the one thing i cant stress enough is people need to use it not abuse it!! even tho it is so hard to stop, doing a couple of grams and getting to sleep at about 4 is GOOD. running out and spending all available money just do drag it out into 2 – 3 day period without eating or sleeping is BAD!! im talking from experience :/.

  19. sean says:

oh forgot to add — the side effects iv had from it are dry chapped lips due to copius amounts of gurning, inability to eat whilst on it, shrunk penis, need to smoke like a chimney, jaw ache from gurning. oh and cringe worthy memories!!! thinkin back to how lovey dovey i was with people, making plans i will never stick to etc…and bringin up the idea of plugging to a few mates when your running out…every1 doing it in plain open in front of every1 but no1 cares…then remembering it in the morning. ARGH!!

  20. Swansea UK Chick says:

I myself have experamented with this drug & while I felt totaly fine other people told me it changed my attitude while I was on it & right now 2 of my mates are getting ready to go up hosp after doing 3G between them this weekend as one has a extremly bad rash unlike any Ive seen before & the other colapsed in work today, has kidney pains & has been pissing blood all day!!!!

So now theres no way I will ever be touching stuff again its not worth the risks for me

  21. Sam says:

Adam: “I’m not that weak to get addicted??” Its a drug, ofcourse its addictive thats why you buy more. And what exactly constitutes as an addictive personality? I’m know this drug goes way past an addictive personality. I’m currently living in a uni flat right now, i’ve been living here for about 6 months. I hadn’t done any other drugs besides weed before I came to uni in england and most of my other flatmates hadn’t either. I was reluctant to snort anything but when i tried it I was in complete euphoria when i first started taking it I absolutely loved it! I remember running up and down in the flat dancing around feeling amazing dancing and chatting to everyone, i told all my friends back home that they had to try it that it was the best drug ever..But after taking it for a couple months now the crap doesnt even get me high anymore, just like a little background buzz and a bad comedown. It seems like everytime I take it now im chasing that memory of that awesome high but i never quite get to it.

Mcat can be a blast but its also mega addictive. You know a drug is easy to get stuck on when you can quite easily snort lines the size of dvd cases after only having done it for a couple of weeks and easily go through what was it 12 grams between two of us in a little less then 48 hours? You know a drug is addictive when you and your friends are getting all antsy cause its 5 in the morning and none of your mkat dealers are answering their phones, and your looking for dvd cases around the flat to scrape (trust me this is truth).
It is addictive and it can’t just be for people with addictive personalities cause i havent hung out with anyone taking it who wouldn’t get just one more gram if they had the money, or the dealer was answering their phone. Point being though, the primary time of it being addictive i’d say is while your ON it, not necessarily addictive in the sense that you think about it or crave it when your off it.

Personal observation of side effects for myself and others i know on it: Depression, lack of motivation to go out and do things, moody behavior snappy, constantly just staying in on weekends and getting high rather then going out. Conjunctivitis after a binge, my eyes swelled up so bad I was in agony.
Mcat burps, so annoying had them at a club in leeds, couldn’t stop burping and feeling nauseous. This doesn’t happen often though.
Also the rashes thing is true, last week two of my guy friends had been on a two day bender and when i came in to say hi one of them had red patches on the face, and both of their elbows were red, and their knees. Also on another occasion one of my friends knees turned purple after we had all been on a binge, freaked me the hell out! No one else i know has gotten the purple knees but i’ve looked it up and i know its a side effect lack of circulation i think?
I have also lost serious weight having been on it, went from weighing 125 pounds to 109 pounds. Its so easy to not eat on it because your too busy thinking about your next line to remember food.
Who knows what side effects this new drug could have, a dude i know from barnsley has been on it for months constantly, and he looks like his FACE is falling off!

Obviously it messes your nose if your snorting, even does damage in one night. One of my girlfriends has been on mcat on the regular for about 2 months her nose is completely messed up indented on the inside.

I have also had my lips become so dry in ONE night of using mcat that im literally peeling the skin off and i’ve seen people on it whos lips look BLACK disgusting.

Anyway i’m not saying stay away from mcat, its got its negatives and positives which this article has so brilliantly shown.

I’m just saying that if you are going to do it use those safe usage tips, and make a plan take breaks otherwise its a downward spiral. And for those who are stuck on it, try using weed as a substitute! I have been and its worked really well been off mcat for almsot three weeks. Anyway hope this comment gives you guys some insight.

  22. Should know better says:

I am certainly new to this but, been using for 4 months every week or so. Dare I say this but I am in my 40‘s and a health care professional at senior level and to begin with I used it once in my annual leave as an experiment as I found my child with it. The effects at around 200mg for me was certainly very euphoric and certainly unlike anything I have ever felt in my life. I did notice though that after an hour I was much more alert and could not sleep. I have no choice in my life but have got to work nights which I have done for 20 years and I hate. I can’t think straight, fall to sleep and feel really ill, I am grumpy when its my day off and cant spend any quality time with my wife as I am always tired. Our relationship was strained and on the rocks for 5 years, I am being honest with you here guys, but I experimented using a tiny amount (30mg) on my night shift and it does indeed make me feel totally awake and clear headed, not euphoric, or stupid, but sharper and more awake. I don’t need to drink 17 cups of coffee and feel jittery, but noticeably my superiors have positively commented on my performance. If I ever thought that this was going to alter my work judgement or performance I would never have done it and I would certainly never will, but for night shifts dare I say it it’s a god send. I work better, feel more alert and can sleep during the day with ease. I have read all the side effects and prepared to use myself as a guinea pig for this substance. My relationship with my wife is better than it’s ever been, and my quality of life has improved so much. On my days off we spend together as a family, go places and have fun, and we are in love again. Sorry to say this but if it shortens my life by 10 years, I would rather that and have my life back enjoying my wife and family rather than getting old and probably divorced. I will keep you all posted on negatives of this as I can only give you the voice of experience.

I have a plan for me. Last couple of months !bubble! has been creeping up on me. I’m 49 years young and have done weekend sessions without sleep(great at the time) but knackered for days afterwards. 48 hrs on drink and bubble is not good.
I stopped drinking for a week no m-cat for a week. Day off tomorrow and wed so had some.
It’s back to that first mega high that I had on first using. So I’m going back to once, twice a week and no other use.
I have read all the above comments and although not all the symptoms affect me there are many that have affected me. Depression, lethargy etc.
Lets use it sensibly and keep it legal cos that first hit is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a very honest and brave thing to write on here. You’ve also given me another angle to look upon this chemical. I’d rather take a tablet containg 30mg of Mephedrone than 200g of sugar, caffein, ginko biloba and whatever other shite they find to spew into a bottle these days for £2, as you just crash and burn. A very intersting read as i have only used it recreationally just to listen to buzz, listen to music and relax.
I may just try and add 30mg to my morning Actimel and see if that pay rise finally comes in lol.

    All the best.

    Moderation is the key!

as mephadrone is becoming more and more popular, people are taking it in vast quantities without really knowing what is in it.

I am no different, i have been taking it for a while and this saturday just gone i was at a house party and collapsed in the basement and woke with paramedics around me because of the mepthadrone i had been taking. I am lucky to be alive– some people are not. Be warned.

took quite a bit on the thursday was drinking, managed to sleep, got home and rested on the friday during the day then went back out drinking again still sort of knew it was in my system, then had a little bit more cos my mate had a massive bag, tiny ammount though, like one line, couldnt sleep felt slightly anti social the next day bit paranoid the day after that, and today still quite paranoid over silly shit. when will my head simmer down ? is this just a bit of a come down ? it better get to fuck fast. noticed my confidence was good while on it and unusually fucked now, just paranioa ? answers please someone

Got more and more hooked on it. Highs become less,so left it alone for a weekish.
One or 2 nights a week and I love it,but be very careful how much you take.
Your highs don’t become higher with the more you take. Be sensible and you’ll love it,take too much and it becomes a problem!

I’ve sampled a few drugs in the last 8 or so years, starting with cannabis, then ecstasy, speed then coke and a few months ago this Mephedrone stuff,i have to say it was great when i first started taking it,now though i would never do it again,i had very fast heartbeat which really made me have a good look in the mirror. I have stopped smoking and only have a drink at the weekends now,the scary thing is,when i do i still get an urge for Mephedrone,my advice to the youngsters starting this easily available stuff is be very careful, don’t buy in bulk because you will definately finish it and don’t go mad on the drink PEACE

  29. bob says:

i have done loads of gear over the last 10 years. from pills and coke to acid, dmt, ket, pcp etc.

as i got older and finished uni and got normal job etc i wound my neck in as couldnt do the mondays on a come down after 2 nights no sleep.

about a year and half ago i discovered meow. its great. i can go out and have a good night, enjoy my self like i used to and then perform as normal on a monday morning at work. its all i will do anymore. you dont have any worries of being caught with it, if your sensible and dont over do it you dont get any negative side effects or come down.

i think making it illegal will be a bad move as there are plenty of other chemicals that will come through and take its placve which could do a lot more harm. millions of people in britain take it and 100s of thousands take it every weekend with no side affects or problems. they should work on better education rather than banning it as has that stopped youngsters taking pills or coke etc? no not at all. it will also start people cutting it with other things. at least when you buy it from the labs in china you know what you are getting rather than a hit or mis bag of powder on the street or in clubs.

the only people i have seen that lose the plot on it are the sort of fruit loops that arnt quite right in the head anyway and shouldnt be taking anything in first place, the same people that have the panic attacks and paranoia after speed etc.

i think in original article its good advice to blow your nose after snorting it though as it is mildly corosive and will cause blisters to skin if left for a while (check a spoon thats bin sitting in it all night and you will see like a rusting apear where the powders been)

Don’t use it all the time,1 or 2 times a week.

  34. Imogen says:

To be honest, this drug is absulutley amazing for the second drug i have ever done! the other one being weed, and i think that even though its amazingg and everyones in on it atm, its evil. Its evil because my friend did it purely for 2 weeks as it pyschologically affects you to want more and he was so ill for the next two weeks.
As for me, i love the high drugs but i’m not going to try any other drug as this drug produced a similar effect and not as bad as ectasy and cocaine.
Because of several encounters with this drug, by this i mean quite a few its given me tonsilitous! and i haven’t been able to get rid of it.. stupidly! i took it while i was on a prescribed drug methoxymethylpenicillin or something like that, and obviously the effects of the antibiotic doesnt cure my throat, so a bit of a bummer.
all im saying is if you are offered it DONT TAKE IT, as i did.. because then every day you’ll think it to be good.. and if you do decide to take it avoid drinking before and leave it at least 20 minutes before you reach for that beer bottle.
cooooooooool, so there my little blog, hope people get the moral of the story that its not worth to get involved with this dirty cheap drug. X

  35. Overfiend says:

Been a a while since I’ve posted here but just a quick one to give food for thought or not as the case may be. I have until the last week been taking 4-MMC on a daily basis at very high doses for months and months. I will agree that it is a very nice drug and does indeed seem to be win win regards the downsides.…@ first I hasten to add.
My usage had escalated to a conservative estimate of between 10-15Grams a day perhaps more all of which I would take via IV Injection and each injection approx 1Gram or .5 G if I was trying ration and pace myself.
The drug has become easily obtainable for me as my Brother is now a selling it and in fairness is making an absolute fortune doing so.….…All Good? Not really.….….
    Now the down side.…..

Aside from the obvious tolerance level increase and the increased usage that goes hand in hand I now have a slightly different view on the drug. It is indeed very addictive and although I myself have stopped now for a week I could at the drop of a hat take easily and happily were it not for detrimental effect it ultimately had on my relationship of 13 yrs with the Love of my life.

My brother although making a small fortune is IV’n prehaps 20 Grams a day and that’s only a very conservative estimate on my part. In reality probably a lot more. It has in effect taken over his existence and is now the main focus of his every day life.

I would now advise anyone who is gonna take to bare in mind the following

    Its addictive (very)
True detrimental effects unknown (aside from the immediately obvious)
It although cheap will increasingly cost more as Tolerance and usage increase.

In summary I would advise anyone now to give it a miss but won’t bust their balls if they don’t. I myself will indeed be staying clear from here on out and sincerely hope that anyone using does indeed have only good come of it.

Enjoy Life people. But do indeed find a balance.….…..Peace Out

Hello my name is joe and me and my best mate dan started takin mephedrone about 5months ago. It started off as a bit of fun at the weekends but soon spred in to the weeks. for the last 7 weeks we have been on it none stop because if we go more than 16 hours with out any we start to have what i can only describe as electric shocks that only get worse the longer we go wiv out. My mate dan has seen me have them in my sleep to and he said my whole body left the bed and went a good few inchs in the air. There are many other side effects to that we are both havin and are both really worried cuz our doctors dont know how to treat us. We both now have a 3 — 6 gram habit a day and are both havin problems at work and fallen outs wiv friends and family members. What started out as a bit of fun may totaly crush our lives. so please anyone takin this drug be carefull and dont do it to often. If anyone can help shed som light on the electric shocks n how to treat them please email me at joefesta@hotmail.co.uk or look me up on fb.

  38. Overfiend says:

@ FatboyAl you are indeed correct and I would not be offended by any one criticising that sort of usage. I have been even by my standards a bloody nut job with no sense. But hey I’ve stopped altogether now so least that’s something.….…The brother is another matter altogether I fear but on the plus there he has at least opened his eyes a bit and is cutting back with the aim to stop IV’n if nothing else.

@ Just Jojo. I feel for you m8. The brother and indeed a few others I know of have experienced electric shocks also. However I can offer you no help or advice really as its something I have not experienced. I’ll ask the brother about them and see if he can assist in any way. I would suspect that weaning yourself off the shit is only way to sort it and not to go cold turkey.

  39. Overfiend says:

Double Post sorry.…..Just another thought i’d like to share.….….… I fear but by all means hope to the contrary that it is likely doing more damage to our bodies than we would like to think. Could be wrong, and hope I am ;)

  40. FatboyAl says:

What will happen if M-Cat becomes illegal. What is procedure and what date or timescale are we looking at. Will Methylone(M1) become illegal as well. It is a heavier drug and or are the any good substitutes?
    Just forward planning!!!!!!!!!

  41. Overfiend says:

Indeed that is a question. I have not been really keeping up with it but I have been told by few different people a multitude of different time frames for the banning of 4-MMC.

What is clear is that the Government are indeed now looking at it with a serious head. The media unfortunately have done what they always do and sensationalised the recent deaths that are or rather have been allegedly attributed to 4-MMC.
If we look at all these cases we will find that the individuals indeed were taking Meph but that in most cases mixed with various other drugs like Ketamine and alcohol to name just two and some of these deaths can in my opinion be placed on underlying health issues for some.

All that said I believe it is inevitable that it will indeed get banned and in the very near future. I understand that at the moment they need to test and look at it carefully and then decide to agree on a classification. I would expect no less than a class B but fear Class A will be the one they go for. However unless I’m mistaken for a new Law to pass it must be both approved in the House Of Commons and then also in the House Of Lords.….…Time will tell. But I’d put money on Government banning rather than legalising it. Which would be the more sensible approach.

    Peace Out

  42. Dezel says:

A reasonably well balanced site but I’m a bit concerned that people are concentrating on acute or relatively short term side effects. Any stimulants (illegals, legal highs or prescription drugs Ritalin, SSRI’s etc) which triggers Dopamine and/or serotonin receptors in the brain are likely to have a long term adverse health impact including serious depression and/or anxiety problems which in themselves can be fatal. The rates of mental illness & suicide are rising in young adults but it takes most people quite a long time to make the link between previous drug use and later mental health issues that can arise months or years after they stopped using. I wish now I could go back and undo the three years of casual stimulant use about a decade ago because it has left me with a permanent long term problem which I can well do without. The rush may seem like a harmless laugh now but its really not worth the hassle in the long run. Plus can you trust the guys that make/sell this stuff. Are they acting in your best interest or just making themselves a few quid? Unless you fully understand both the chemical composition and pharmacological effect of that miscellaneous white powder you’ve been offered give it a wide berth because your brains complex and it will cause effects that you can’t anticipate and could mess you up for a long time. Only experiment if you are prepared to live with the downside.

  43. markus says:

I think a read of the comments on this page should help you decide on making the right decision on the drug. I never touched drugs until I got to 30, then I used them for 6 years. Mostly e, some coke. Mostly a weekend user.
I am permanently changed from the drugs. Less ambitious, memory is shocking, suffer from depression. Now I have kids I feel very guilty that i am not my best for them.
Pretty sure most young people will not relate to this, when you are young, you feel bullet proof, and its hard to relate to being older, and the consequences of taking drugs.
There is a price to pay, and you will pay it, sooner or later.

Having said all this, I do feel that its a travisty that drugs like e, coke, grass are illegal and lead to jail. Most drug deaths are because drugs are illegal, and are made in backstreet chemists. People should be given the right to make the choice if they want to use or not, and if they choose to — then they should be provided with good quality drugs, as well as information provided by goverments and drug companies on the consequenes of taking the drugs.
It just does not make sense to make drugs illegal when alcohol is legal. Alcohol is just as bad, if not worse than many drugs.

Have just finished reading all comments and found it to be very helpful . In the town were i live it has got away out of control. My nephew did tell me back in Sep that he had tryed this drug a few times and that he wouldn’t do it again . He is showing all signs of being on it now worst than every .

My sister (his mother) has now run out off things to try and has got to the stage were she is going throw a living hell . This weekend he got so down when she would not let him go out . That he cryed For a whole nite , she was thinking that he was going to do something silly and sat by his bed . This is ripping her family apart .

I’m sure there are some of you who are thinking it may not be this drug , but i have been told by his friends that it is .

I don’t know him anymore he is not the boy i knew growing up , He lies all the time . Never has money , but always looking 4 some . The way he is at home shouting ‚roaring when asked anything about his weekend . His mother is now afraid of him .

Like any drug it’s very easy to see the positive sides of drug taking the Euphoria that Mephedrone gives draws you in to further use. Alcohol was mentioned in a couple of posts, this just shows how legal drugs can effect individuals famalies and communities. I work with those who have seen the negative effects of this drug the youngest at the minute is 13 but have also seen those in their 30’s and the same message come across I love it but I can’t take that shit no more. The posting from Worried Auntie makes me want to weep, having gone through it ourselves 3 months ago (see earlier postings when this sort of sociopathy and deviousness and utter self-obsession was described by someone having to live alongside it).

The only thing to do, in my view, when it has got a grip on someone you love, is to take an enormous risk and go nuclear, and use whatever your knowledge of the person concerned, gives you to hold over them, and invest in saliva testing kits, and summon up the aggression to require the person to co-operate with regular and random testing, on pain of permananet removal of the thing that he or she wants — be it money, computers, phone credit, friends, schooling, or accommodation.

As it tests falsely positive for methamphetamine, on saliva screening tests, you CAN acquire the means to know whether your loved one is still doing it, but only your knowledge of that person, and what used to matter to them, before they got lost, will help you to help them.

No-one who reads the postings on this very site could ignore the risks, and still claim to be clever, could they? Various users on this site have stumbled their way through trying to communicate via brain-addled mis-spellling that it causes nose bleeds, kidney problems, electric shocks (er — aren’t they plain old boring withdrawal tremors??) blue hands and feet, skin rashes, memory loss, lack of concentration, long term anxiety and depression and that it bloody well SHRINKS YOUR WILLY. Why isn’t that enough to put ANY teenage boy off of it?

I find myself, for nearly the first time in my middle-aged life, thinking thank goodness for the power of the media.

I’m reading this whilst my little girl is in bed.
She is 16 yrs old and has had a lovely childhood. She is bright and used to light up a room with her beautiful smile.

A year ago she started seeing a lad, who had a reputation for getting into trouble and doing drugs, (pills, weed, etc).
We have done our best to advise her and point her in the right direction but did’nt force her to split..we we’re afraid of creating a Romeo/Juliette situation. We hoped it would burn itself out in time.

We accepted this boy into our lives, hoping to see the best in someone, and that he may prove everyone wrong and not be the person we’d heard about.

He /his influence on our family has been devestating.…his addictions now include Meow.
We now lock all of our doors and constantly live in fear of him breaking in to rob us or get to my daughter. We fear his mental state, his violent temper, his instability.
We fear for our own safety and hers.

It came to a head tonight…take too long to explain!

My little girl is in bed and i’m frightened she won’t wake up tomorrow because she’s taken something.

When we managed to get her out of his house tonight..she was in a mess..mentally, emotionally, physically.

So don’t tell me these chemicals are fun, or cool or exciting.….

You will have a little girl one day, a beautiful little girl that you will love with all your heart, and i challenge you to look into her eyes and see my pain and fear !!!!
