Introduction

This recipe produces a small amount of cannabis-infused butter, or cannabutter, which can be used in a massive range of recipes to add that extra kick! If your recipe requires more butter than the amounts given here, feel free to multiply up all the amounts.

Ingredients

Baking

  • 4oz (115g) Butter or Margarine
  • 1/8oz (3.5g) Cannabis buds/hash OR
  • 1/4oz (7g) Cannabis leaves

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Sieve (optional)

Method

  1. Melt the butter slowly in a pan. Add 1/8 oz (3.5g) finely ground cannabis, and simmer on a low heat for around 30 minutes. This allows the cannabis to infuse fully into the butter. Take care to keep the heat low, and stir continuously as the butter can burn easily.
  2. After 30 minutes, pour the butter into a jug or tub. As you do this, if you want to remove the bud/hash/leaf, you can pass it through a fine sieve. You won’t be wasting any “good stuff”, since all the THC should have dissolved into the butter, but if you don’t mind getting green bits in your teeth, you can just as easily leave it in.
  3. Allow the cannabutter to set for around an hour, or until relatively hard, before using.

    me and my mate tried to make your hash brownies the other day but failed terribly

    when first making the cannabis butter i put my hob on the lowest heat it would go to and it burnt should i just keep putting it on the hob and off to keep the butter melted while stirring it ?

  4. If your lowest setting is still burning the butter, I reckon taking it off the hob every now and then will do the trick. Just try and keep it as hot as it can be without it burning.

    put water in a big pot then put a smaller pot with the butter in the boiling water, this keeps the temp around 212F which works

    So I have heard of several things involving water while making cannibutter . I have heard you should put some water with the butter+buds to help prevent burning. Also I have heard of the method mentioned above which suggests putting a smaller pot with the butter+buds into a larger pot of boiling water. Which is the most effective method do you think?

  10. An eighth of weed will make enough butter to make a moderately sized tray of brownies. I’d suggest cutting this tray into 16 brownies. One or two should do the trick.

    As for water, I reckon the “bowl in a bowl” thing would be your safest bet. That way, there’s no risk of it all boiling off and your butter burning anyway.

    sorry for the questions, but is there ever a point where your butter will become saturated if you will with THC? Lets say for the hell of it you throw in 1/2 and not 1/8. Will the butter be proportionally more potent or does the butter reach a limit (i.e. saturation)? Thanks for all the information Synchronium, i always appreciate advice from those knowing what they are doing

  18. When you are making cannabis butter can you use any weed like say i have a half ounce of kush can i grind that up and use that?

  19. always remember, every pound of butter use 1oz of weed….i use slow cooker with 1 cup of water, 1 pound of butter n 1oz of weed …cook slow for 3 hours stirring every so often

  20. This recipe sucks. You need to add equal part of water so you dont burn the butter and you need to let it cook slowly for about 24 hours

    Ghee (Asian butter) is purified and largely liquid at room temperature. It seems to accomodate heating to high degrees before burning. Or perhaps I just cant tell if this stuff is burned or not? just stays like oily looking oil. An alternative to cannabis butter that re-solodifies, perhaps?

    Is weed butter necessary? I mean… would you still get high from making regular brownies then just dumping a load of weed in?

    I have tried making hash brownies twice and both times it was never strong enough…i used a half o-an o for five sticks of butter

  27. First, you need to make sure you’re using bud. Chop it up fine, and boil it in a large pot of water, slowly, with a small amount of butter, let it boil for about 24-48 hours. The THC will turn the butter green. Let it cool, stick it in the fridge to cool some more, then keep the hardened butter floating on the top and throw out the weedy water (the THC has gone now, it’s just grass, let it go man). Trust me, brownies are much better with no bits of grassy shit in them!
    Then put your green butter in whatever you’re cooking- this is the Australian way ;) And yes, your house WILL stink for 2 days.

    if you first clarify the butter you can heat to extremely high temp without burning. to clarify butter simply set cold butter into sauce pan and heat very slowly. do not stir or mix as the milk solids (the part that burns) will separate and float to the top. simply skim the milk solids from the top with a spoon and add your cannabis or hash. after cooking add 1-2 oz of water to mixture and shake well, then refrigerate and magically the water carries the plant matter away from the butter. remove the puck of butter and discard the water and plant matter.

    i used half pound butter and alot of leaf and cooked on slow for 30 minutes.. it will just start to boil slightly and then you can either poor into brownie dough and mix or you can strain it into jug or jar and put in freezer until hardened

    yaehhhh men i made it and i’m about 9 hours so f…king stoned!!! now i want to smoke one 2 feet long weed but i cant find it…..oh men i’m so stoned i cant stand up…im on pc about 5-6 hours!I LOVE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Luv4kush, the best material to use is unsalted butter. Before you put the cannabis in, though, make sure you clarify the butter: Put the butter in the saucepan on medium-high heat. When you see white froth gathering at the top, skim that off, and when it’s all gone, let it cool and follow the above recipe. the froth is milk solids, and if it’s not skimmed off, the cannabis is absorbed by the stuff and doesn’t get used in your body.

    If your stove is too hot to melt the butter, you might want to consider filling a pan with water and putting a frying pan over top (A “double boiler”). Let the heat from the boiling water melt the butter.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this site. I’ve tried your recipe twice now, and it works a treat. I use 100g butter and 15g of vegetable oil.

    Rather than let the mixture cool, I add 250g of oats and 150g of golden syrup, mix well, and pour into a small baking tin that I’ve lined with greaseproof paper. I then baked the mix at 180c for 20 minutes. Voila! Hash flapjacks!

    I would imagine if you use 100g of butter, it would yield about 100g of butter.

  55. I like to use a crock pot. Get 200g of butter and put it in a crockpot on low for 10-12 hours (with an 1/8 of bud). It has never burned, and simmers perfectly. Add more butter with more buds

    If your stove is burning the butter, buy a double boiler. You put water in a bottom pot and boil it gently, and then put the second pot over top. Since water can not exceed 100 degrees c (212 f) your butter can not burn. I have used this method successfully a couple of times now… I cook it for an hour+ to make sure all the THC has a chance to come out. It won’t burn on a double boiler, but stir it a lot anyway to make sure nothing settles at the bottom.

  59. Am getting 1/4 oz. weed today…my pulmonologist said to make THC butter….will reduce COPD inflamation without irritating the lungs. I’m in US on UK google….

    Please tell me how to use this butter after it’s prepared. Also, how much is equivelent to 1 joint???
